Physiotherapy
As first line practitioners you do not need to be referred by a doctor to see a physiotherapist. If you have any injury, a niggle or just want to enhance your body’s potential you can come see us. Physiotherapy is used to treat acute and chronic injuries with the main focus on restoring the highest level of function and movement to your body. It helps to reduce pain in damaged tissues by optimising the body’s healing process, while considering the psychological, social and cultural factors affecting the injury or impairment.
I provide physiotherapy for people of all ages. My consultation process consists of a holistic approach that is customised to the individual’s needs, state of health and fitness level. A thorough assessment aims to accurately diagnose the cause of your problem through a detailed history and a full physical examination.
The treatment plan may include a variety of treatment modalities. These include soft tissue release, joint mobilisation, fascial release, specific rehabilitative and mobility exercises, strapping and dry needling.
Client involvement is vital in the recovery process. We spend time explaining your diagnosis, prognosis and treatment options, and addressing psychological barriers to improvement.
What does a physio session involve?
- A comprehensive diagnostic assessment of your injury.
- A full body movement screen to identify elements that could be contributing to your affected area. Every body is unique and it’s important to understand how your body moves, so that I can work out where the restrictions are and plan the best management for you.
- Education about your injury and how I can help relieve symptoms and prevent recurrence.
- Manual muscle release (massage).
- Dry needling for precise, localised muscle release.
- Joint mobilisations to restore micro accessory movements to stiff joints.
- Fascial release to restore mobility to restricted areas along the fascial lines.
- Neural mobilisation to facilitate mobility in affected neural pathways.
- Rehab exercises to strengthen muscle groups.
Treatment during a physio session often includes a combination of these techniques. Depending on your injury, I will select the most appropriate treatment for you.
